Eating at Good Shepherd Center
When children sit down to eat at GSC they are being offered a wide variety of delicious, healthy, and kid friendly meals. Our goal is to give children an environment where they feel comfortable and encouraged to try new things through teachers role modeling, conversation abut the food and benefits, and the freedom to make the choice. we also use a 4 week menu cycle to give kids lots of exposure to menu items. We do this because the more you allow child a to see, touch, feel, taste, and talk about a the food, the more likely they are going to be willing to try it, and hopefully, like it.
families help us by enrolling their children in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CACFp is a federally funded food program that reimburses us for following their guidelines. They are committed to making sure children are being served healthy meals with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, less sweets and kids are being given the opportunity movement and exercise throughout the day. Being enrolled in the cacfp helps us ensure we are able to help children learn how to live healthy lifestyles by learning to eat nutritious meals and exercising several times a day.
